So yeah, big paywall to get to use the cutting edge stuff and some audio technicalities you have to learn as well. I have to do more research but it’s what I’ve seen anyway.
Machine Learning is doing crazy stuff with speech recognition but I doubt people will get into automatic music transcription anytime soon as big audio companies are keeping the talent and the current focus is on music generation rather than transcription (Look for Magenta). Most of the tools for MIDI to audio you find online will use the same method (Look for FFT) to convert the samples into frequencies and then try to do something with that info.
